Behind the Scenes at AHEM: Roberta Van Vlack

This series profiles the volunteer board members of AHEM who answer your phone calls and emails; keep the AHEM website updated; follow MA legislation; maintain the homeschool policy and practice database; and dream up and make happen events and programs like homeschooling workshops, Town Point People, the AHEM Networking Forum, and the Slow Homeschooling podcast.

Roberta Van Vlack and Barnabas

Roberta lives in Mansfield with her husband, four kids, two cats, and Barnabas the basset hound. She has always homeschooled her kids, starting with a more eclectic style and moving gradually toward a Charlotte Mason-inspired approach with lots of real, living books. Two of her children have graduated and are now in college and two are nearing the end of high school. When she is not busy with homeschooling, Roberta blogs about Charlotte Mason education and reformed Christian theology at Letters from Nebby. She also runs a seasonal Etsy shop and in 2020 became a living kidney donor. Roberta has been involved in the homeschooling community for years, helping to moderate the Attleboro Area Homeschool Group as well as some Charlotte Mason-based groups. She is happy to have recently joined the board of AHEM.
