Excessive Documentation

If you haven’t responded to the AHEM Questionnaire on Homeschooling Policy and Practice yet, now’s the time! We've recently added a question about excessive documentation. Some schools are asking for “proof of residency” and “proof of identity.” A very small number of schools have done that for a while, but most have not. We want to see if it is becoming more widespread this year.

AHEM’s opinion is that if not mentioned in Charles, then providing these documents cannot be required as essential for approval. Further, since most districts don't ask for this information, it clearly has not been essential for the last 30 years. An education plan is what Charles says must be submitted to homeschool. Asking homeschoolers to jump through these extra hoops makes homeschooling more onerous than it ought to be.
