HELPING AHEM SPREAD THE WORD
One of our organizational goals is to make ourselves known to Massachusetts homeschoolers, so they will feel comfortable coming to AHEM for help, and comfortable giving AHEM information to build the policy and practice database. Word of mouth is the most effective form of publicity. You can help by spreading the word. Here's how:
Mention AHEM in conversation: "Hey, have you heard about Advocates for Home Education in Massachusetts? You can find out more about them at AHEM.info. They are a great resource for Massachusetts homeschoolers! Sign up to get their updates — I did."
Print out this handout and give it to a friend. (Print it out back-to-back to create a trifold pamphlet.)
To receive free pamphlets for distribution, send your name and address to info@AHEM.info or write to AHEM, PO Box 1307, Arlington, MA 02474 or call your County Contact with how many you need.
Or how about submitting info about AHEM to your local support group's newsletter or elist? (Suggested submission: "Advocates for Home Education in Massachusetts (AHEM) is a nonprofit, independent, grassroots, volunteer-run, educational organization that gathers and disseminates information about homeschooling in Massachusetts through education, advocacy, and events. We believe that informed and active homeschoolers are their own best advocates in maintaining the right to independently homeschool. We welcome and value the participation of anyone interested in homeschooling in Massachusetts. AHEM is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
We invite you to browse our website http://www.ahem.info where you will find practical information and support for homeschooling in Massachusetts, information about AHEM, and snapshots of real life Massachusetts homeschoolers."
Hint: Adding a personal endorsement about the value of being a Friend of AHEM is always a nice touch.)
We are willing to travel if you would like to invite us to a support group meeting or other gathering to talk about how homeschooling works in Massachusetts, AHEM's mission and goals, and how you can stay informed or get involved. We always enjoy meeting with real live Massachusetts homeschoolers. If you would like to host a gathering, contact us to find a mutually agreeable time, and publicize the event to local homeschoolers.
Create a display in your local library and include information about AHEM. Tips and ideas here.
If you have other ideas for spreading the word, let us know. Thanks for your help!
