Americorps: AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. http://www.americorps.org/

Argo Academy: Argo Academy offers a semester of study afloat combined with nautical training and travel. This program meets the needs of students looking for an individualized high school curriculum integrated with dynamic experiential education. The Center for Interim Programs, LLC: The Center for Interim Programs is a consulting service that helps young people find meaningful gap year placements. http://www.interimprograms.com/

City Year: City Year brings together young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. United in their desire to serve, these young leaders invest their talents and energy to solve critical problems in their communities, engage volunteers, and make a positive difference in the lives of others. http://www.cityyear.org/

Dynamy, Inc.: Dynamy's Internship Year accepts young people, ages 17 to 22, from across the country for a nine month long residential program which includes full-time student internships, a wilderness (Outward Bound or Boojum Institute) expedition, individual advising and mentoring, community service, group meetings, and optional college credit seminars through Clark University. http://www.dynamy.org/

Earthwatch: Earthwatch Institute engages people worldwide in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding an action necessary for a sustainable environment. http://www.earthwatch.org/

Global Crossroad: Global Crossroad offers a variety of placements in 22 different countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Latin America : Volunteer Abroad, Internship Abroad, Mini-Adventure, Group Summer Escapes, and Paid Teaching opportunities. http://www.globalcrossroad.com/

Global Service Corps: Global Service Corps (GSC) is a nonprofit international volunteer organization providing service-learning opportunities for people worldwide to live and work abroad in Thailand and Tanzania. http://www.globalservicecorps.org/

Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. http://www.habitat.org/

i-to-i: Helps people volunteer at worthwhile projects in 23 countries; Trains people to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and assists them in finding jobs as far afield as Cambodia, China, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Nepal, Poland and Spain. http://www.i-to-i.com/

"Interspeak" Internships: Customized internships in England, Scotland, and Wales for students in high school, college, or taking a Gap Year.

Outward Bound: Delivers adventure in the wilderness, urban centers, workrooms, and classrooms to help others achieve their possibilities and to inspire them to serve others and the world around them. http://www.outwardbound.org/index.html

The Samaritans: A telephone befriending service in search of nonjudgmental listening and support people. Samariteens is a special part of the service dedicated to assisting teens in despair. This help line is free, confidential and staffed by teenage volunteers who are trained to be compassionate and supportive listeners. Samariteens provides peer support and understanding to those facing the particular challenges of adolescence. Locations:

Student Conservation Association: SCA is a nationwide force of high school and college-age volunteers who are committed to protecting and preserving the environment. Through internships, conservation jobs and crew experiences, SCA members are rising to meet today?s environmental challenges while gaining real, hands-on field experience.
